Japan Tops Retail Success List
For GetData’s Recover My Files
The Japanese market is now GetData’s No. 1 retail market for it’s acclaimed and award winning data recovery tool Recover My Files.
Besides Japan, Recover My Files is currently sold in IT retail stores in the US, Australia, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Holland as well as globally off its websites.
Japan may not be the most obvious place for an English language data recovery product to have substantial retail success.
Almost four years ago, GetData was approached by Tokyo based software reseller Intercom.
“Japan is a very big and important market. But we’d always felt the language problem could be difficult to overcome,” admits Managing Director, John Hunter.
“Intercom had found the product. They were impressed and they’d done their homework. They’d tested Recover My Files and said, for them, it was the most efficient data recovery tool in the world. It doesn’t matter about the language people speak, it’s all about the computer data on the hard drive and whether a data recovery software tool can recover it.”
With a population of over 127 million at the time and around 49 million households, the market stats instantly made sense.

“We felt if they were confident, and we were satisfied with the deal, there was absolutely no reason for us not to go in to the Japanese market.”
Intercom converted all the text in the program to Japanese, designed their own box and moved the Japanese version of Recover My Files into the retail channels.
Today, it is one of the top PC data recovery tools in Japan. And for GetData Software, despite the retail deals in the US, Australia and six European territories, the most profitable.
